Semiotics Study

1Research:
The first step involved picking an object (my glasses), where I then went on to write a several page paper about the meaning they hold, not just to me personally, but in media and culture, looking at glasses in both a logical and emotional analysis. Below is the first paragraph, which captures the essense of why I chose this as my object and its brief but powerful meaning to me.

2Photoshoot:
After I got the words out, then it was time for the photos. This was my first time using a DSLR camera and I experimented for hours in the photo room with lighting and angles.

3Crit: The goal of this phase was to shoot several with a denotative approach (think glasses ad for a website) and a connotative approach (think of glasses witha dirty lens). After this was locked in, I carefully chose denotative and connotaive words and phrases to create a type + image relationship that was playful yet sophisticated. Below is a shot of all my images hung up for a visual + verbal critique with my class, alongisde rough drafts of my images with early ideas of typography.
